Disneyland Postcards: What's New?

October 5, 2007

DisneylandPostcards.com to continue!

Mike has graciously offered to let us continue DisneylandPostcards.com - to keep this interesting and awesome collection readily available online.  As posted below, his postcards are also available on Flickr

Mike McKiernan has not only enjoyed collecting Disneyland postcards, but also making this information readily available to people.  Many hours of his have gone into making this information available which has surely helped countless collectors and provided lots of enjoyment for many.

If you have a postcard that you'd like to display on DisneylandPostcards.com, which isn't currently displayed, please contact us.  If you have a postcard that Mike doesn't have that you'd like to send to him, please visit his website.

All of my postcards are now on Flickr! Which means this web site will be closing soon. I'll miss having the #1 web site about Disneyland postcards, but the monthly fees are just too much for a site that's just a hobby and doesn't provide any income.

The good news is, my entire collection will still be readily available at: flickr.com/photos/disneylandpostcards/ - Please bookmark it! I'll still be updating with new postcards (such as the Harbor Blvd. one that you see at the top, there). Plus, Flickr offers many things my site never has: easier navigation between photos, slideshows! (I'm most excited about this; it's great for before and after postcards), and a search box!

Be sure to check the Sets, Collections, and Tags pages.

Thanks for the support of this web site, and I hope to see your comments over at Flickr.

Not goodbye,
Mike

  • Disneyland's greatest cast member, Jack, sent me the latest and greatest postcard - another "Where dreams come true" card, but this one is truly unique in size.

  • May 12, 2007
  • Added a BRAND NEW series of 8 black and white/character postcards - all sold inside a tin case - promoting the "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign.
  • Good ol' Jack sent me 5 promotional postcards of the Main Street Railroad, most from Ape Pen Publishing and one of them is a Disney card from the Fullerton Railroad Days event, in which Disneyland's E.P. Ripley was there on display.

  • March 27, 2007
  • Just received a nice package of freebies from my good friend Jack! Including one of Captain Jack himself, promoting the all new enhancements to Pirates of the Caribbean.
  • Three, yes, THREE hotel freebies from all three hotels!!! (Well, technically I received four hotel freebies, but the "Dreams come true" one is sort of generic, so it's living over in the Disneyland page.
  • Finally, two very old postcards - yet another shot of the old "olympic-sized" Disneyland Hotel pool (and frankly, I'm getting bored of these). And one of the few very rare Grand Canyon Diorama cards.

  • February 10, 2007
  • Added the brand new 2007 card, which is shown here at an angle so the re-appearing Castle shows through.

  • January 15, 2007
  • Added a new hotel card of the original pool, not too much different than this (presumbly) older one.

  • December 13, 2006
  • Added 3 brand new postcards in the Disneyland section: A beautiful Christmas greeting card (though, I need to confirm if this is a cast member card, or sold to the public). Other two new cards are from the "Where dreams come true" campaign: an all new Mickey ears one (making this the 4th mickey ears postcard) and a 3D/lenticular card -- all thanks to Jack, the greatest cast member ever!!!
  • From a recent postcard convention, I scored a very old and rare Hotel card of the Treasure Trails shop, which sold Native American merchandise.

  • November 5, 2006
  • Some very cool updates today!
  • Two very rare hotel postcards!!! One of the original Coffee Shop! (Thank you, ebay!)
  • The old Le Gourmet Shop in New Orleans Square and the rare "Believe..." fireworks postcard (at least, I never saw this card when I visited the park during the running of that show).
  • And finally, my good friend Jack has once again supplied me with a brand new addition to Disneyland's postcard rack, a 9-pack, fold-out set, which is the first of its kind in ages!

  • July 8, 2006
  • Just got back from the Behind the Magic - 50 Years of Disneyland Exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California and picked up the 24-pack of art postcards. If you get a chance to visit this exhibit, do it! It is a must-see for any Disneyland fan (make sure you do the audio tour).

  • June 25, 2006
  • It's been a long time coming, but I finally added 10 brand new postcards from the park, dating late 2005 to early 2006 - all thanks to my best online Disneyland buddy, Jack. Thanks again Jack!
  • First up, is the last Toontown card I needed to complete my Toontown collection.
  • Next we have some freebies commemorating the 50th anniversary that were given out to Hotel guests and other guests of the resort (need to confirm this) - including another 50th version of Sleeping Beauty Castle and the first official postcard of Downtown Disney!.
  • Lastly, I added a third Nightmare Before Christmas one to the Miscellaneous section and four new cut-out postcards that are also stickers!
  • Well, that's it for now, I have a stack of older postcards sitting on my desk that I need to upload as well, so stay tuned! Also, be sure to visit Ape Pen Publishing (publishers of several Disneyland books) for my special Postcard of the Month series.

  • May 9, 2006
  • Though I have many more postcards to add to my site, I wanted to add these four very special cards:
  • First, the final two pre-opening postcards to complete my collection!
  • Next, a 1955 "P-Series" postcard, of the Main Street Cinema and horse-drawn carriage.
  • Finally, a new postcard straight from the park, representing the 50th Anniversary with Gold Mickey Ears.
  • Stay tuned in the next week or two, where I'll have (hopefully) about a dozen or so new postcards on the site!

  • February 14, 2006
  • Well, I just got back from a postcard show and only found one card that caught my eye. Only two more to go to complete my Pre-opening Concept cards!
  • Luckily, a new friend I met online was nice enough to donate two hotel postcards, so this update isn't as pathetic as it could have been. Thanks, Jack!

  • January 20, 2006
  • Wow, it's been 5 months since my last update and I only have four new cards to feature. Just goes to show that once a collection gets as big as mine, the pickens get slimmer and slimmer.
  • First, the brand new 2006 card has arrived!
  • The other three cards are two Hotel cards and one on Main Street.
  • I'll be heading over to a postcard convention in about a month, so I'll have another update then.

  • August 18, 2005
  • Added a pre-opening/concept postcard of the Train in Frontierland.
  • And don't forget to check out the new "50 Years of Disneyland Postcards" section, which includes "then and now" comparisons of 1955 postcards with photos taken in 2005. And btw, if anyone would like to share your own recent photos to compare with those 1955 postcards, please let me know.

  • July 20, 2005
  • Just got back from the park's official July 17th birthday celebration (which was well worth the long wait in line) and added the brand new 50th Anniversary 12 pack.
